It may seem complex — all the testing and measuring to get the swimming pool water balance just right — but anyone can do it. Besides, it’s not optional. It’s crucial to the safety, enjoyment and longevity of your Waterscapes pool. Don’t rely on your senses to tell you the balance is out of whack. Who wants to experience burning eyes or skin, or that slick feel on the bottom of the pool? Yuck! Yet those are some common indicators that the levels need adjusting. Even worse, improper balance could lead to serious issues that you wouldn’t “see” until it becomes a costly repair. Corroded parts, a damaged pump. Even rising electric costs can be attributed to poor maintenance.
The best strategy is a weekly one. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be a chemistry whiz to keep your pool in top condition. There are kits that make it practically foolproof. Look for a kit that, at minimum, tests for Free Available Chlorine, Cyanuric Acid, pH, Total Alkalinity, and Calcium Hardness. These are the five areas you’ll need to balance on a weekly basis.
It doesn’t take more than a half hour or so to perform the recommended tests and make adjustments. Of course you could hire a pool service to do it all for you. But once you get the hang of it, getting the balance right is easy and you’ll be teaching your neighbors like a pro.
